Wisdom Teeth Removal in Denver CO

Wisdom Teeth Removal in Denver CO

Wisdom teeth are the last set of molars that erupt in the mouth, usually between the ages of seventeen and twenty-five. Most of us have four wisdom teeth, and they emerge normally if we have sufficient space for them to grow, in alignment with our other teeth. But sometimes, due to lack of space, they may become impacted in our gums. In such instances, the removal of wisdom teeth becomes necessary to gain relief from pain and discomfort. At Atlantic Dental in Denver, we offer comfortable wisdom teeth extractions for our patients so that they do not face any complications in the future.

Why Do Wisdom Teeth Need to Be Removed?

The impacted wisdom tooth does not emerge fully from the gum line or grows out at an incorrect angle. As a result, the area around the tooth can swell and cause pain and infection. Some of the chronic symptoms of impacted wisdom teeth include:

  • Swollen and bleeding gums
  • Pain and swelling around the jaw
  • Foul odor in the mouth
  • Headache or jaw pain
  • Unpleasant taste when eating

When Should Wisdom Teeth Be Removed?

The removal of wisdom teeth in young adults, especially those under the age of twenty-five, is associated with speedy recovery and less discomfort than in older adults. Therefore, if it is diagnosed that your wisdom teeth are likely to cause problems in the future, our dentists will recommend their removal at the earliest.

Preparing For Wisdom Tooth Removal

The length of your procedure may differ based on the number of wisdom teeth that need to be extracted and the complications involved in it. In preparation for the surgery, we will give you a set of instructions that have to be followed. You will need to fast the night before the surgery, and you should not drink alcohol for at least twenty-four hours before receiving local anesthesia. It will also help to arrange for someone to accompany you to the dental office and take you back home afterward, as the effects of anesthesia will take some time to wear off.

The Procedure for Wisdom Teeth Removal

After you have been administered with local anesthesia, our dentist will widen the socket around your wisdom teeth. Then the tooth will carefully be rocked from side to side until it is loose enough to be removed with forceps. If the tooth is deeply embedded in the gums, then we may cut through your gums and even remove some of the bone structure to reach the tooth. Then the incision is stitched closed.
